How I Started
Years ago, while working behind the Clinique counter in Boston, Massachusetts, I decided to legitimize my passion for makeup and study for a license in esthetics.
This license would provide me with specific training in facials and waxing facials and my forever love – makeup! The makeup, of course, is the definition of cosmetics and I can never get enough! I am that person who has drawers and drawers of lipstick, lip pots, lip gloss, and lip liners; cream blush, powder blush and cheek highlighters; eyeliners, eyeshadows, and mascaras. And everything in my collection is organized by category!
Makeup was a passion and hobby since I can remember but going to school for esthetics taught me about waxing, and this was new to me. The process of waxing includes pulling hair from the root so that skin is left incredibly smooth. A smoothness you can’t get from shaving, and it lasts longer than shaving as well. One thing that I recommend to all of my clients is to get their brows waxed. Beautifully shaped brows that fill in where and when needed are the frame to the face – they polish any makeup look. When your brows aren’t done, your face isn’t done either.
You can imagine that it is very difficult to wax my own eyebrows – and dangerous as well. So my esthetician who I’ve seen for years does a beautiful job waxing my eyebrows about once a month, and she has over ten years of experience.
Some Advice
For anyone getting their brows waxed for the first time, I recommend taking a pain reliever like Tylenol or Advil 30 minutes before the service. There can be some discomfort that first time. But for those of us that have been waxing for years, know that the pain lessens over time. And there is nothing like having beautifully manicured eyebrows.
Use a color that is a shade lighter than your own brow hair color so that it looks natural and not overdone.
And last but not least, make sure you go to a reputable center to get your brows done. Wax can be tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing so you want to find an esthetician who has experience – specifically waxing eyebrows. The skin around the eye is very delicate and thinner than say the skin on your cheeks. You’ll want to make sure you are being serviced by a trained professional so if you don’t see their license – ask for it!
