If you have picked up a magazine lately I’m sure you have seen the phrase “clean beauty”. Many people ask me about clean beauty; what it means and why it’s important. For many years if you purchased a beauty product, and looked at the ingredients listed, you would see a long list of words that were very difficult to pronounce; many of those ingredients were toxic including known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. The beauty industry, much like the food industry, allows companies to use a small number of toxins such as:
Parabens, phthalates, chemical sunscreens, synthetic fragrance, BHT and BHA
These toxins have been proven to be safe in small amounts, which is why the Food and Drug Administration allows cosmetic companies to use these ingredients. However, knowing that these chemicals can be harmful in higher levels was enough for me to look for products that had fewer chemicals and more naturally derived ingredients.
I have some clients that were a bit difficult to get on board the clean beauty wave because they were worried about the efficacy of products that didn’t use chemicals. However, they quickly realized, as you will, that clean beauty can be just as effective!
These days there are many options for using clean beauty from makeup to skincare, to hair care; you can find clean beauty products for almost any beauty product you need. Here are a few of my favorite brands highlighting my favorite product for each – I recommend you try them all!
